What is biofeedback?

Computerized biofeedback is a non-invasive technology that helps you learn to control muscle tension and other body responses to reduce your pain and stress. Biofeedback is provided by a Certified Biofeedback Therapist.

How does biofeedback work?

Biofeedback technology measures muscle tension, blood flow, temperature and breathing patterns and instantly displays this information on a computer screen. The computerized image allows the therapist to “show” the patient muscular tension and/or imbalances and how to correct these dysfunctions. Biofeedback therapy is further used to teach relaxation techniques, breathing patterns changes and effective stretching exercises aimed to reduce and control the patient’s pain level.

Because a patient's physiological responses can be measured in real time, treatment strategies can be specifically tailored to each individual's needs. Biofeedback therapy is particularly crucial in integrating the psychological and physical aspects of pain.
